This is one of those deadlines that sneaks up on you. Every year, all Ohio businesses, large and small, file an Unclaimed Funds Report with Ohio’s Division of Unclaimed Funds. This year’s deadline is November 1, 2026, and it covers accounts that have been inactive as of June 30, 2026. It applies to any business located in Ohio, operating in Ohio, or holding funds owed to Ohio residents.
Nothing to report? You still need to file. The good news is that it’s quick. You’ll submit a “Negative” report to let the state know you checked.
What counts as unclaimed funds? Think uncashed checks or paychecks, vendor or customer credit balances, refunds, or forgotten deposits.
How to file: Reports are filed electronically through the Division’s reporting portal. Paper reports are no longer accepted. Save your confirmation for your records.
Found something? If an account owner is owed $50 or more, send them a Notice of Unclaimed Funds first, then wait 30 days before reporting. Certified mail is required for amounts of $1,000 or more.
Missed a prior year? The Division’s Voluntary Compliance Agreement Program is designed for businesses that haven’t reported in previous years.
Questions? Call the Division of Unclaimed Funds at 614-466-4433. If you’re not sure whether any of this applies to you, you can call us at 614-891-5423, and we’ll point you in the right direction.
