At Nichols & Company, we know many of you are assisting elderly parents or grandparents right now. In an effort to support you, we wanted to share that the IRS has launched a new tool to assist non-filers in registering their current information for their Economic Impact Payment.
The new tool, created in conjunction with FreeFile Alliance, is designed for those who were not required to file a 2018 or 2019 tax return. The Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info tool allows these non-filers to supply the IRS with their current address, number of dependents and direct deposit information.
Distribution of Economic Impact Payments to taxpayers who filed 2018 and/or 2019 returns is expected to begin next week. Distributions to those receiving social security retirement or disability benefits and railroad retirement benefits will follow in the near future.
Another tool which will help everyone everyone check on the status of their payments, is Get My Payment. This IRS tool, which is expected to be available for use by April 17, will provide taxpayers with the status of their payment, including the date their payment is scheduled to be deposited into their bank account or mailed to them.
For those who did not include direct deposit information on their prior returns, Get My Payment will allow eligible taxpayers to provide their bank account information, so they can receive their payment more quickly than waiting for a paper check. Please note: this feature will be unavailable if the Economic Impact Payment has already been scheduled for delivery.
